Cerakote Air Cure. We've started to use Air Curing Cerakote to replace our duracoat services. It is a similar material and has a better strength than standard duracoat in our expierience. Degreasing of the parts is next; this is a paramount step in the procedure to make certain you receive the best adhesion of the Cerakote. Feb 04, 2011 Cerakote is a bit gritty so coating the entire bolt makes the action feel rough. we still coat the handles. the one part air dry is also very tough and can be dried in your heat box as well. the black is very dull. we get most of our black Cerakoat from Brownells or NIC directly for some of the odd colors not carried by most.

Feb 21, 2012 Re: Cerakote air vs oven. The guys at NCIS told me the air cure is better for gas guns because of the higher temps they can get while firing. I am sure if a person doesn't have a way to oven cure, the air dry would work just fine for a bolt gun too. Snipenace.

Jan 22, 2021 I have used both heat and air Cerakote. Both work very well on firearms. The only down side to air dry is the wait time. Air dry is stronger then heat dry when it comes to being exposed to high temps. I find it easier to work with and has less waste.

Jan 25, 2019 87. The oven I just built on the cheap is 36x48x16 and holds almost 240f in a 30f shop with a simple heat gun on high. It can be done VERY easily and on the cheap if you want. Jul 06, 2015 Cerakote is a ceramic, Duracoat is a two-part chemical more akin to an epoxy. Neither is necessarily better or worse than the other and, properly done, neither should have any issues with wear in normal use. Cerakote is temperature cured by baking, Duracoat can be just air dried. Cerakote, by nature, can't be repaired if it is scratched.

Mar 27, 2012 The air cure on Cerakote doesn't cover as well as the thermal cure does. It will require more attention then the theraml cure will. There is less waste with the air cure as you aren't mixing up a two part setup. KG Gunkotes thermal cure and air cure are both 1 part and hold up just as good if not better then the Cerakote does.

Nov 02, 2010 Cerakote is a whole other animal then Duracoat. Air cure will cure in five days. Oven cure in one or two hours and is tough as nails. Down side to Cerakote is not many colors. Not all colors available in both air and oven, and when they are the gloss factor can be different and this will cause a different sheen between air and oven cure.

Nov 11, 2013 Here's one of my personal cerakote jobs. Just got my 308 back from my smith and it needed some clothes so I ordered up some mil spec od green. Blasted the barreled action down with 80 grit alum ox. Soaked for a couple days in acetone and dried out.
